Wildcats 2003 Section 3
Champions!!
• The West Genesee
Wildacts defeated the Corcoran Cougars 19-6 to claim the
2003 Class A Section 3 title on Saturday 5/31. The 'Cats
were led by game MVP Matt Cassalia who notched 4 goals/2
assists and Casey Rotella who stopped 15 Cougar shots
in the contest. The Wildcats now face Section 5 Champion
Webster-Schroeder in semi-final action at 3:30PM Tuesday
at St. John Fisher College in Rochester.

2003 West Genesee All-Americans
• Congratulations
to seniors Matt Cassalia and Drew Dabrowski in being
named Section 3 All-Americans for the 2003 season! It
is the second year in a row for Cassalia to receive
the prestigious honor and the first Genny two-time winner
since Mike Schattner in 1986-87.

Post Season Awards for
Former Wildcats
• Three former 'Cats; Dylan
Macro (Alfred), Ken Fischman
(Utica) and PJ Burns (St.
John Fisher)achieved Empire 8 Conference Honororable
mention status for 2003.
• Mike Borsz (Hobart)
achieved Patriot League 2nd team honors. Borsz also
recieved defensive player of the week honors after a
19 save performance against Cornell.
• Dean
Mancini (Onondaga) has been named All-American
and all-region for the #5-ranked Lasers.

Banner year for
Woolschlager
• Congratulations to former Wildcat
Matt Woolschlager ('02)
on winning the National JUCO Championship and achieving
Academic All-American honors at Herkimer this year.
Herkimer won the title on May 11th with a 21-10 victory
over Essex.
**** Wildcat Alumni Game ****
• The West Genesee
Wildcat Lacrosse Alumni game will take place on July
18th at the Richard Frisina Fields as part of the 2nd
Annual John Pepper Memorial Lacrosse Tournament (see
info below). Advance registration
is required. Click on the banner at
the top left for more information.
To date, 24 former 'Cats have registered for the games.
Remember, you must advance
register by June 27th through this site
by clicking on the banner to the left. Pass the word
on to those you know.
John Pepper Memorial Tournament
• Preparations are
underway for the second annual John Pepper Lacrosse
Tournament has been set for July 19th and 20th at the
Richard Frisina Fields in Camillus. The tournament features
boys divisions on 7/20 including Under 14, Under 12
and Under 10. This year's tournament will also feature
a girls tournament for the first time on 7/19 and includes
High School, Under 15 and Under 13 divisions. Cost per
team will be $300. For additional details visit the

Spillett receives Honors
• At the annual LeMoyne
College sports banquet on Sunday 4/27, senior attackman
Ryan Spillett ('99) was
named 2003 Male Athelete of the Year (see photo below).
In addition, Spillett now is the all-time assist leader
for the school with 140.

• We currently are
looking for any West Genesse lacrosse images, memorabilia
and press clippings for all years to include in development
of a historical time-line. If you may be able to contribute

Conklin sinks UMBC with
big game
• Former West Genny
middie and current Navy All-American Greg
Conklin ('99) had a banner day on 4/15 in scoring
a career-high five goals and adding two assists in a
13-10 upset of #10 University of Maryland-Baltimore
County. Conklin received ECAC co-player of the week
honors for his efforts.
Chemotti Drafted by New
Jersey Pride (from the NewJersey Pride
site)
• March 28, 2003
- The New Jersey Pride further took advantage of existing
talent in the marketplace by aquiring the rights to
seven more players who will get the opportunity to vie
for a roster spot come the end of April. Players such
as Dan Chemotti (pictured
at left), a Duke University (2002) standout currently
coaching at Dartmouth and playing for the indoor pro
team, the NJ Storm, will get his shot to make the team
2002 Boys and Girls Recap
• 2002 was one for the record books as
both the West Genesee boys and girls lacrosse teams
won unprecedented N.Y.S. Class A crowns on Saturday
June 8, 2002. The West Genny boys defeated section 11's
Northport Tigers 10-9 on current senior Drew Dabrowski's
last second shot. The Wildcats finished the season ranked
2nd in the country.
The Lady Wildcats defeated Farmingdale 15-11 to claim
their second state title in as many years and finish
the season 24-0. With the convincing win, The Lady Cats
extended their winning streak to 44 consecutive games
and finished ranked 3rd in the entire country!!
Calabrese and Dabrowski
feeling "Blue"
• West Genny's Brian
Calabrese and Drew Dabrowski and their families better
get used to wearing the color blue for at least the
next four years as the two Wildcats have announced their
college destinations as they enter their senior season
.
Calabrese will be joining former Wildcat Dave
Powers ('01)while playing defense for the University
of Delaware Blue Hens in 2004. Meanwhile, attackman
Drew Dabrowski has decided to lace up his cleats just
up the road playing for Coach Dave Pietramela's John's
Hopkin's Blue Jays. Dabrowski led the Wildcats in scoring
as a junior with 33 goals and 37 assists.
Cassalia is Greyhound
Bound
• Congratulations
go to senior midfielder Matt Cassalia on his comittment
to Loyola College to continue his lacrosse career and
education! Cassalia will be joining former 'Cats Steve
Brundage ('00), Kevin Burns('99) and Bernie Cannon('00)
playing for Coach Bill Dirrigl's Greyhounds.
A three-year starter, Cassalia earned All-America honors
and lead the Wildcats to the New York State title in
2002. He scored 51 points a junior and won 72 percent
(184 of 254) of his faceoff attempts.

Camp –
June 30 - July 3- 9:00AM-2:00PM at The Ultimate Goal,
Marcellus, NY
• The Syracuse All-Star Lacrosse Camp not only
will focus on the basic skills of lacrosse but we will
also teach teamwork, setting goals and leadership. This
camp is sponsored by Inside High School Sports Show
and GB Lax and directed by Michael Bristol.

• Indoor and outdoor fields
